Viking Secret Wildcard Poker Add-on Deck
This page deals with cards from the game Clue as they pertain to the rules of Viking Secret Wildcard Poker.

Overview

Clue cards have several special effects when they are played in certain combinations.

Note: In the UK, the game is called Cluedo. To avoid confusion, The term 'Clue' is used throughout this document.

Card descriptions

Clue cards come in three different types:

  • Suspect
  • Weapon
  • Location

A full list of these cards can be found here, but they are not all required to play VSWP. Any subset will do as long as it contains at least one Suspect card.

Terminology

When referring to these cards in pairs or groups, the following terminology is used:

Suspect + Location Suspect in the Location
Suspect + Weapon Suspect with the Weapon

Examples:

  • Col. Mustard in the Kitchen.
  • Mrs. White with the Revolver.

Setup

The Suspect cards are shuffled into the general deck by the dealer. The other cards (Weapons and Locations) are shuffled together to form a separate Clue deck. This is also done by the dealer prior to the beginning of the game.

Rules

Dealing

Clue cards only count if they are dealt as community cards. If a Clue card is dealt to a player as one of their Pit cards, that player must surrender it and be dealt another card in replacement. The Clue card then discarded with no effect (unless otherwise specified).

Whenever a Clue card is dealt as a community card, the dealer must immediately place a card from the separate Clue deck on top of it. This will result with a Suspect with either a Location or a Weapon on top. Different combinations result in different effects. The effects of these combinations are outlined below. If there is no specific effect outlined for a particular combination, then that combination is not considered to have any effect on the game.

Scoring

A Suspect card has a base value equal to the absolute value of the difference between the number of letters in the Suspect's last name (ignore the title) and the number of letters in the Weapon/Location card name. Example: Mr. Green - Kitchen = 5 - 7 = 2.

Special Rules

  • If Professor Plum is played in the Library, then much new knowledge is gained. All players remaining in the hand must immediately place one of their Pit cards (of their choice) face up on the table in front of them.
  • If both the Mrs. White and the Kitchen are present. All players remaining in the hand are dealt one new Pit card from the General Deck. They may now use any two of their three Pit Cards, in combination with three community cards, to make their final five-card hand.
  • If Rev. Green is played with the Revolver, then the player who would have been next to play must fold.
    • Exception: If this combination occurs as the Pants card, nothing happens as all bets have been made at this point.
  • If Miss Scarlett is played in the Pants, all the male players must fold.
