Talk:Feed Dumps Sorted by Host

- I'm going to update this page with the new videos since 137. Also, since Kathleen is taking over hosting duties, I'll edit accordingly. It might take a week or two; I'll edit this note when I've finished. -- Elah Jan 7, 2014

Given that Kathleen is now hosting more than Graham is, maybe we should figure out a way of indicating the host of an episode, like have episodes hosted by Graham be starred, and episodes hosted by Kathleen have a plus sign or something? AlexanderDitto (talk) 07:38, 5 April 2015 (PDT)

Here is an idea: make the numbers links to the video pages. Also this could grow unwieldy as the number of 'guest' hosts grows. Lord Chrusher 02:33, 23 February 2012 (PST)

Working on linking numbers to video pages. It's already unweildy. I'm going to add commented lines for each table cell indicating which co-host was present. --MadAlric 01:34, 25 February 2012 (PST)

Edited the code so that adding future hosts will be easier, and changed all of the numbers to links. I haven't double-checked my work, so some links may be incorrect.--MadAlric 03:31, 25 February 2012 (PST)

Should Graham be included in the table, or should we only add him if he isn't present for a Dump? --MadAlric 14:08, 18 April 2012 (PDT)

Has he ever not been present? I don't think he needs to be added, we can just assume he's in there. Mtijn 12:20, 29 May 2012 (PDT)

If Graham ever were to not appear in a Feed Dump, it should be noted as an exception. Including him in the table would just bloat it unnecessarily. --jello ¿? 03:05, 23 June 2012 (PDT)
If he starts not appearing in more episodes, we could consider adding him to the table. For now, though, one note is probably better than an entire extra row/column.

With the current episode only starring Graham & Kathleen, it's kind of hard to put Kathleen into the table. Just a note like for Ep.40 or put the link into the grey Kathleen/Kathleen field? --jello ¿? 03:05, 23 June 2012 (PDT)

I'd put her in the Kathleen/Kathleen field. It's conceivable that more people could host by themselves in the future, and putting them in the box with themselves seems like an easy way to indicate that. AlexanderDitto (talk) 19:49, 24 June 2012 (PDT)
Since no-one had any other idea, I added the episode link into the Kathleen/Kathleen field and changed the colour to light grey to reflect that there is information in that field now. --jello ¿? 11:21, 29 June 2012 (PDT)

Perhaps we should change the table to be hosts on one side and episodes on another. I'll throw together an example here:

Table Title Goes Here
# Title Alex Andy Ash Brad Cam Graham James Jer Johnny Kate Kathleen LeeLee Marc Matt Missie Morgan Paul Tally
1 Tigers and Sheep Yes Yes Yes
2 Mullet Bandit & The Blondes Yes Yes Yes
3 Smoking Carrots in New Zealand Yes Yes Yes

Doing it this way allows us to make in-table notes about short appearances and fixes the single co-host and no-Graham contingencies gracefully. It'll just be a little time-consuming moving the data over to this format. This also doesn't mean that we have to get rid of the other table. They can co-exist, because they fulfill slightly different purposes.

Arranging the table like this gives you less information than the table we have now, though. The table we have now easily provides answers to both "who has X co-hosted with" and "what episodes has X appeared in?" Your poposed table only easily answers the second question. The only additional benefit your table has is the ability to sort by Feed Dump title to find who starred in it, but if you have the episode number for the Dump, you can easily find that in the other table too, WITHOUT having to sort (just by Ctrl+F'ing for the number). It's also much more compact. Your proposed table would have to be very very wide, and would get increasingly long as more episodes were added, which I think would make it very difficult to use. You also wouldn't be able to add the notes you suggest without distorting the table (since the column would expand to fit the note, which would look ugly). Personally, I think the "center box" solution to the single host problem (that we did with Kathleen in Spears and Spume) works very well, and if we really wanted to include cameos we could introduce a highlight color on those links for those episode numbers. You're never going to be able to include 100% of the information in the table, though (for an example of something that wouldn't be practical to include in the table, see the Bacon Coffin note), so I think having an "Additional Notes" section below the table is just fine. That said, if you want to make the table and maintain it, I'm sure it's fine. Not like we're running out of room on the wiki. XD -AlexanderDitto (talk) 10:17, 13 September 2012 (PDT)

Does the count of Kathleen's appearances count when she hosts the dump or only when she co-hosts?

mtvcdm on the forums has posted some statistics which might be useful, here is the relevant for reference. [1] Silverfish (talk) 12:41, 5 January 2015 (PST)

Auto-generated table

I used this powershell script User:Zaz/FeedDumHostTests2/script to generate the table User:Zaz/FeedDumHostTests2 automatically. Unless anyone objects I will replace the table on this page with that generated table in a little while.

I also generated the alternative table suggested above. example, script. -- Zaz (talk) 12:30, 11 May 2015 (PDT)
